Volunteer Welcome and Orientation

Thank you for expressing interest in the volunteer program at the Providence Ronald McDonald House. The Providence Ronald McDonald House is a "home- away-from-home" for the parents + families of pediatric families and severely ill maternity patients.

This Home could not operate without our volunteers. The role of a volunteer is to assist the Resident House Manager with the daily operations of the House and to provide a hospitable and caring environment for our guests. As a volunteer, you will be asked to do various tasks, and your responsibilities may vary from time to time. Keep in mind that the comfort of our guests depends upon our volunteers. Volunteer are often jacks-of-all-trades and offer the flexibility to do whatever needs to be done to help keep our house open for all guests.

Volunteers need to understand that this House is for the families of hospitalized children. Occasionally children stay at the House, but volunteers should not come to the House expecting to interact with a lot of children. We ask volunteers not to become involved as counselors; however, a volunteer can be a wonderful listener. Medical care and counseling services are provided by the area institutions. Our goal is to make a difficult time in an unfamiliar place as nearly normal and comfortable as possible.
